The heart of Global Alumina’s commitment to Guinea is the promise that the Guinea Alumina refinery will be a mutually beneficial venture that will enable individuals and families to emerge from poverty.
The United States African Development Foundation is also committed to helping Africans overcome poverty through alternatives to traditional foreign assistance funding.
Both parties’ commitment to ensuring that sustainable wealth be generated in the communities that surround the refinery resulted in the joint creation of a $10 million, five-year fund aimed at improving conditions and supporting new businesses. The USADF-managed fund will build educational and healthcare facilities, improve and remediate local infrastructure, and fund a network of small and medium-sized enterprises that will support Global Alumina and add to the local economy.
